Pentax Unveils Customizable Optio RS1500

Golden, Colo. - Pentax Imaging introduced Wednesday its Optio RS1500 digital compact camera offering a wide range of customizable options.

The Pentax Optio RS1500 ($150 suggested retail) offers limitless interchangeable-skin options.

The camera, which ships in April at a $150 suggested retail, can be custom detailed with a variety of faceplates to change its look to reflect the personality of the user.

The faceplate system uses no screws and includes an interchangeable-lens ring snap (choice of orange or black included) to hold custom skins of any personal choice or design.

To customize the RS1500, users may select one of 10 skins featuring contemporary designs that ship with the camera. Alternatively, they can visit a skins gallery atwww.rs.pentaximaging.comor download the Pentax Personal Skin Designer Adobe Air-based software fromwww.pentaximaging.com.

The digital designer can be used to import a photo or digital image and save a skin as a PDF for printing on a color printer.

Other features of the Optio RS1500 include 14-megapixel resolution, 3-inch LCD monitor, a 4x optical zoom lens covering 27.5mm wide angle to 110mm telephoto, and user-friendly operation. 

The lightweight camera body is about the size of a credit-card and is available in pearl white or silver.

The Optio RS1500 features nine digital filters including toy camera, retro and sepia to add a variety of visual effects to images without the need for a computer. Multiple filters may also be applied to a single image for even more unique, creative visual effects.

The camera's automatic face detection feature for the AF and AE systems instantly and accurately detects human faces within the image field to  optimize focus and exposure on the subjects.

Other features include smile capture mode that automatically releases the shutter the moment the camera detects the subject's smile; natural skin mode to give the subject a smooth, healthy skin tone; auto picture mode, which automatically selects the appropriate shooting mode; 720p HD movie recording; movie shake reduction; a new Digital Blur Removal function; digital panorama mode; green mode to simplify camera operation with a fixed set of shooting settings; a frame composite function that stores three frames in the camera to shoot or compose images with decorative photo frames; burst shooting at a speed of 16 images (fixed at 640 by 480 pixels); and image viewing, editing and filing software package compatible with latest Mac and Windows operating systems.
