After an eight year hiatus from the movies, Haley Joel Osment is making a return to acting with three independent projects. The first two are in post-production, with no release set and truly unfortunate titles: Sassy Pants and Montana Amazon . The third has a fine title ( Wake the Dead ) and should have no trouble finding distribution given the marketability. Variety reports that Osment will play Victor Franklin, a college student who experiments with raising the dead in a present-day retelling of Frankenstein .

In April, the British Ministry of Defence published a study which for the first time gave serious consideration to the moral, ethical and legal aspects of the drone wars. The study advises defense planners that 'before unmanned systems become ubiquitous' they must 'ensure that, by removing some of the horror, or at least keeping it at a distance we do not risk losing our controlling humanity and make war more likely.' If you've ever felt disappointed by the lack of choice at your local multiplex, spare a thought for the cinemagoers of Indonesia, where it is currently next to impossible to catch movies from major Hollywood studios on the big screen.
Indonesians look likely to miss out on blockbusters such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two, Cars 2 and Transformers: Dark of the Moon this summer, all of which are caught up in a standoff between studios and local authorities over a new levy on imported movies. The tax was ostensibly introduced in an effort to protect Indonesian film-makers from Hollywood competition, but its introduction appears to have backfired after Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Walt Disney Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox Film, Warner Bros. Pictures and Universal Pictures withdrew all their programming from the country, which boasts a population of more than 237 million.
