Gwen Stefani yesterday donated $1 million of her personal wealth to the Save the Children’s program, the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Children in Emergency Fund. The generous move comes as Stefani said how she had been inspired by Japan and its people.
I “have a true love, appreciation and respect for the Japanese people and their culture,” she said, describing the earthquake, tsunami and ongoing nuclear disaster as “beyond heartbreaking”. She was careful too, to thank her fans from whom she got all this wealth, saying that without their love and support she would never have been able to make such a gesture.
It’s good to see a star appreciating her fans and doing something altruistic with their money, isn’t it?
Stefani, the No Doubt singer, also announced that she has designed t-shirts that will be sold through the group’s website, with the profits of those sales also going to help with disaster relief in Japan.
The worldwide charity, Save The Children, estimates that around 100,000 children have been made homeless and in excess of 380,000 people evacuated across Japan because of the natural disaster and its ensuing consequences.
Last week, Sandra Bullock also donated $1 million to the Red Cross to help with their disaster relief efforts in Japan too. She is now continuing her altruistic work, consoling Renée Zellweger after the “Bridget Jones” star split with long-term boyfriend, Bradley Cooper, reportedly over their different views on whether they should marry or not. Renée doesn’t want to be a Bridget Jones character for real and wants to settle down and start a family, while Cooper is apparently happy as he is. Anyway, Renée has found herself some nice friends.
