Fare Deals: Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland

A trip to the Guinness brewery in Dublin is a must-do, even if you're a Coors Light drinker.

Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, a new brochure from Tourism Ireland and its partners highlights value-priced vacation packages to the Emerald Isle. From Insight Vacations, the nine-day Irish Elegance tour starts at $1,899 per person (land only) and offers savings of $100 per couple for bookings made by March 31. There’s also Cosmos’ Irish Explorer, winding its way from Dublin to Sligo, Dingle and Killarney, over the course of nine days, fully escorted and priced from $1,044 per person (land only). From one European destination, to seven — now that’s expansion. Sunwing is ramping up its Europe program this summer with new flights to London, Paris, Dublin, Porto, Lisbon and Rome, plus Amsterdam, the city that launched Sunwing’s Europe service last year. Introductory fares to London and Paris start from $349 plus taxes round trip. To London (Gatwick), Sunwing will offer four weekly flights, and to Paris (Charles de Gaulle) and Amsterdam, two weekly flights each. The four remaining destinations will see weekly service. All flights will operate on Boeing 767s with Sunwing Airlines’ famous “Champagne Service”, featuring a choice of hot meals with wine and soft drinks, free headphones and, of course, a “welcome aboard” glass of champagne to start the journey off right. There’s also a 25 kilogram per person free checked baggage allowance (which bumps up to 30 kg for Rome flights, and 50 kg for Lisbon and Porto flights). Sunwing’s Europe season runs June 16 through Sept. 12 and the company says it will also make hotels, transfers and car rentals available soon, to complement the flights. See www.sunwing.ca .

The friendly folks in Colorado want to make it easy for us to ski in their state. In Telluride, both the Hotel Madeline and the Inn at Lost Creek have a “Spring Ski Fling” promotion where your second night is free with a minimum two-night booking, from now through June 1. Rates start at $250 (U.S.) per night and are subject to availability. See www.hotelmadelinetelluride.com and http://innatlostcreek.com . Also in Colorado, Vail Resorts has a special deal just for Canadians, offering a free upgrade to the next room category for stays until the end of this winter’s ski season. To qualify guests must show a valid Canadian passport at check-in. Participating properties include The Arrabelle at Vail Square, The Lodge at Vail, the Pines Lodge at Beaver Creek and The Osprey at Beaver Creek. At Vail and Beaver Creek, the months of March and April have historically enjoyed more sunshine and snow than any other two months combined. See www.vailresorts.com

Some accommodation deals come with a choice of one, or maybe two, activities. At The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va., the options are limitless. With the aptly named Summer Unlimited Activities Package, available starting March 14, you can try as many activities as you would like, from golf on the resort’s three 18-hole championship courses, to gorge hiking (complete with 13 waterfalls), to fly fishing and horseback rides. Tired yet? Just wait — there’s also canoeing and kayaking, paintball, mountain biking, archery, bowling and skeet shooting. The starting rate of $295 (all prices U.S.) includes one night’s accommodation and activities for two people, with additional adults and children six and over an additional $60 each. See www.thehomestead.com .

Anantara Resorts is offering free nights with its Extra Night on Us promotion. The deal applies to travel now through April 15 with a minimum three night stay. Anantara’s properties can be found in Thailand, Indonesia, Dubai and the Maldives. See www.anantara.com/extranight/default.aspx .
