ARTHUR ***: A fairly close remake of the 1981 Dudley Moore movie, starring Russell Brand as a permanently drunk zillionaire, Helen Mirren as his nanny and Greta Gerwig as the poor girl he falls in love with. Rated PG-13. (Roger Ebert) 1:50

ATLAS SHRUGGED *: Only someone very familiar with Ayn Rand’s 1957 novel is likely to understand the film, which involves a state plot to discourage bold entrepreneurs by preventing the use of better steel in railroad tracks. Rated PG-13. (Roger Ebert) 1:37

BLUE VALENTINE ***½: Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams star as a couple in two seasons of marriage: Six years ago when love was fresh, and today, when love proves unable to support the weight of real life. Rated R. (Roger Ebert) 2:00

DIARY OF A WIMPY KID 2: RODRICK RULES **: As Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) braves his first days of seventh grade, his parents make an attempt to help him forge a stronger bond with his mischievous older brother. Rated PG. (Roger Moore) 1:38

HANNA ***½: A stylish and superior action thriller starring Saoirse Ronan as a home-schooled, isolated child taught advanced killing skills by her father (Eric Bana) because the two are hiding from a ruthless CIA officer (Cate Blanchett). Rated PG-13. (Roger Ebert) 1:51

HOP **: The Easter Bunny’s teenage son E.B. (voiced by Russell Brand) heads to Hollywood, determined to be a drummer in a rock band. In L.A., he’s taken in by Fred (James Marsden), after the out-of-work slacker hits E.B. with his car. Rated PG. (Associated Press) 1:34

INSIDIOUS **½: A family moves into a cavernous old mansion that is occupied by a sinister presence. Lin Shaye plays a psychic called in to help. Not a great movie, but delivers what you expect. Stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne. Rated PG-13. (Roger Ebert) 1:41

LIMITLESS **½: Eddie (Bradley Cooper) takes a pill that suddenly puts his full brain online and gets hired as an investor for a billionaire (Robert De Niro). Passably entertaining. Rated PG-13. (Roger Ebert) 1:45

LINCOLN LAWYER ***: Matthew McConaughey plays an attorney who works out of the back seat of a car. He gets hired to defend a rich kid (Ryan Phillippe). Familiar stuff, but engagingly acted. Rated R. (Roger Ebert) 1:58

RANGO ****: A smart, animated comedy in which Johnny Depp voices a humble reptile saddled with the responsibility of bringing civilation to Dirt. Rated PG. (Roger Ebert) 1:47

RIO ***: A 3-D animated adventure about Blu, a cerulean macaw from Minnesota who takes off on an adventure to Rio de Janeiro with the bird of his dreams. Rated G. (Associated Press) 1:36

SCRE4M **: The ghost-faced psychopath has returned to the town of Woodsboro. A self-aware genre film by Wes Craven, but haven’t we been here, done this? Stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette. Rated R. (Roger Ebert) 1:51

SOUL SURFER **½: The true story of Bethany Hamilton (Anna-Sophia Robb), a champion surfer who in her early teens was attacked by a shark and lost her left arm. One month later, she was back on a surfboard. Rated PG. (Roger Ebert) 1:46

SOURCE CODE ***½: A man (Jake Gyllenhaal) finds himself inside the mind of a commuter on a train that is about to be blown up. Rated PG-13. (Roger Moore) 1:33

YOUR HIGHNESS *: A promising cast (James Franco, Natalie Portman, Danny McBride, Zooey Deschanel) in one of the worst films of the year, a witless farce set in medieval times.
