Cooper's Acting Proves 'Limitless' - Entertainment

What would happen if you could take a pill that would turn you into a genius? Would you use it to help mankind or would you use it for your own personal pleasures? In the movie Limitless, the latter is the course that the characters take. This is a good direction because the movie's plot is as thrilling as putting your hand in boiling water.

The film starts out introducing Eddie Morra, played by Bradley Cooper. Morra is a writer whose life greatly changes when he starts taking NZT, a substance that allows users to activate their entire brain. Through illogical choices and bizarre circumstances, Morra is able to obtain a large stock of the substance.

With the drug, Morra goes from a haggard looking unsuccessful writer to a scary precise stock analyzer, who is able to woo women with ease, and at the same time is able to get back his ex-girlfriend who dumped him because she thought he was becoming a slacker.

Morra's mission throughout the course of the movie is to get back his ex-girlfriend and to make enough money for his girlfriend and him by taking this magic pill.

Since the drug is like any other power drug, the high only lasts a certain length of time per use (NZT lasts approximately 24 hours). Once you stop taking NZT cold turkey, you go through withdrawal symptoms including black outs, delusions and anxiety. These side effects, along with being chased throughout the city by thugs all looking for the substance NZT, provides a tension-based plot that will increase anyone's heartbeat.

Because of the fantastic director Neil Burger, whose past work includes the "Illusionist," Burger is able to put the audience into Morra's shoes, making you feel like you are watching his life unfolding through your own eyes.

This movie would not be possible without the fine acting of Bradley Cooper, who has such a congenial personality and is believable as both a success and a failure. Even though Morra commits some questionable acts, the movie is not about morality. It is an action flick that delivers excitement throughout.
