Most Oxford Hills schools opening today

OXFORD — All but two schools in the Oxford Hills district will open Wednesday morning, Superintendent Rick Colpitts said Tuesday night.

Classes for K-6 students at Hebron Station School and K-4 students at Otisfield Community School will not begin because electrical service to those buildings had not been restored, he said.

At all other schools, students in grades K-7 and 9 will begin classes Wednesday, and students in grades 8, 10, 11 and 12 will start Thursday, Colpitts said.

Power outages and road closures from Tropical Storm Irene last weekend delayed the start of classes Monday and Tuesday.

“It's a shame," Colpitts said. "The teachers got all pumped up, and then not to have the kids." Faculty started school Friday.

The two missed days will be treated as snow days and added to the end of the school year, Colpitts said. The district has six snow days built into its calendar.
