Bradley Cooper, U2 Are 'British GQ' Men of the Year

Cooper has been working as an actor for some time, but 2011 was undoubtedly his breakthrough year. The Hangover: Part II , sequel to the giant hit The Hangover , was hugely successful, and Cooper's role in Limitless proved he had the chops to act opposite Robert DeNiro and carry a movie on his own leading-man shoulders.

U2 has had a history of breaking records, and 2011 saw them do just that. Their U2 360° summer tour was the highest-grossing tour of all time, and their headlining performance at Glastonbury marked their first appearance at a festival in 25 years.

Known mainly for his Golden Globe-winning and Emmy-nominated role as the crotchety title character on FOX's House , Hugh Laurie is also a talented musician (thus his win for singer of the year). In 2011, he released his first album, the bluesy Let Them Talk , which has earned surprisingly rave reviews and gone on to become certified gold in the U.K.

Cooper, Laurie and U2 weren't the only big names onhand at London's Royal Opera House for the Men of the Year festivities.

Other winners were '80s supergroup Duran Duran , given a lifetime achievement award, and newcomer Benedict Cumberbatch , who was named Actor of the Year for his turn as as Sherlock Holmes in the Masterpiece Theatre series Sherlock .
