What If only a pill can make you rich and powerful? Sounds stupid doesn't it, but Eddie Morra will do anything to get his hands on it! Limitless talks of a below average person Eddie Morra who thinks his life sucks and he really can't get things straight. On being introduced to a mysterious pill, known as the NZT-48, the pill is an untested drug which is of great value when it makes its way to the "Streets". He gets to know that by taking the pill he would be able to reach his full potential. Not believing at first, he still tries it. After 30 seconds in effect you see a different man, a man who is the exact opposite of his former self. Eddie Morra is the biggest player in town, from an acknowledged writer to the biggest broker to a ladies' man. Eddie's life was just perfect. But everything comes with a price, he has to take the drug frequently to remain in effect or else face the side effects and then you have others who are willing to risk more than anything to get their hands on the drug by any means whatsoever. Eddie realizing the threat he has dragged himself into and it is the same drug which is the only way out.

It's rare to see a film fumble its premise as badly as Neil Burger's Limitless. What starts as a slick, darkly ambiguous thriller with some wonderfully inventive visuals hits a tipping point once you realise Burger and his crew aren't interested in character development or getting their audience to think. This is Hollywood formula dressed up in a hastily-constructed moral dilemma that goes absolutely nowhere by the end, further hamstrung by the lack of a truly charismatic leading man and a pointless romantic subplot.

It makes for an interesting discussion and sometimes, brilliant works such as Flowers for Algernon (the great book by Daniel Keyes, and Charly the movie with Cliff Robertson). The most recent addition to this sub-genre of fiction is The Dark Fields, a novel by Alan Glynn, which became the basis for the movie Limitless, which was released on DVD this week by Twentieth-Century Fox Home Entertainment.

That’s the good and mixed news about director and co-writer Francois Ozon’s Potiche , in which Deneuve and Depardieu play ex-lovers who have aged into later-life roles: Deneuve as Mme. Pujol, the deeply intelligent but criminally wasted “potiche” (or trophy wife) of a wealthy factory owner, and Depardieu as M. Babin, the same city‘s Communist mayor, parliamentary representative and pro-labor firebrand.

Limitless is a 2011 American techno-thriller film.

Directed by Neil Burger.

Starring Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish, and Robert De Niro.

Based on the book The Dark Fields by Alan Glynn and screenplay by Leslie Dixon.

After reading a couple of reviews, I was a little worried the film might blow up in my face and disappoint me, but I had to judge for myself and luckily it passed my expectations. Limitless was a smart, funny, and fun ride.

Director Neil Burger (2006’s “The Illusionist”) takes aim at trying to create a Chuck Palahniuk-like story with his latest film, “Limitless.” Burger seems to have all the right ingredients to do so, minus the dark tone that usually accompanies Palahniuk’s stories.

There’s a good amount of humor, fast-paced visuals and a charming, if somewhat loathsome, character. Bradley Cooper (“The Hangover”) is the perfect choice for this film. Is this supposed to be a wild ride of a film? Yes, and it is for a good amount of time. “Limitless” is an exciting and unique concept that, unfortunately, gets hampered down by one action cliche after another. And suspending disbelief can only go so far before it becomes too much.
